About LEHER

Education is a core pillar of MJAF’s mission. LEHER adopts a holistic early learning model that strengthens education systems by focusing on how children naturally learn, move, and grow. It emphasizes play based, experiential learning and supports both teachers and classrooms in creating engaging, child centric environments that nurture curiosity and foundational development.

LEHER is implemented at DMC Boys and Girls Primary School on Baba Island in collaboration with the Navy League. The initiative focuses on strengthening learning environments, building local teaching capacity, and reimagining early education through more engaging, child centric approaches beyond conventional classroom methods.

The Early Learning Center

These centers are designed as engaging and supportive learning environments where children learn through movement, play, and exploration. They are professionally managed by the foundation with ongoing mentoring, teacher development, and a focus on quality.

Our Commitment

Disaster relief is not just a response — it is a promise.
A promise to show up. To support. To rebuild. And to ensure no vulnerable community stands alone in times of crisis.

Our Impact So Far

LEHER has grown from supporting 30 children with 4 teachers to reaching 200 children with a team of 16 teachers, reflecting a steady expansion in both scale and impact.

Learning Environment

Classrooms have been reoriented to become more child-centric, with teaching approaches shifting towards interactive, activity-based methods. The emphasis has moved away from rote learning towards encouraging curiosity, participation, and hands-on experiences

Engaging Parents in the Learning Journey

Regular parent-teacher interactions have been established to build stronger engagement with families. Participation in school activities has further strengthened the connection between the classroom and the home environment.

A Curriculum That Moves With the Child

LEHER has introduced a structured, child-centric curriculum focused on sensorial engagement, play-based learning, and experiential development. Ongoing efforts are directed towards strengthening and refining the curriculum to better support early childhood learning and development.

Key Milestones

  • Growth from 30 to 200 students, with expansion from 4 to 16 teachers
  • Expansion from 1 classroom to 7 classrooms
  • Establishment of a continuous teacher training culture to enhance learning delivery
  • Development of a library to encourage reading habits
  • Transition from rote learning to play-based and experiential learning approaches

Looking Ahead

LEHER is being further expanded in line with its guidelines, with early learning now extending across seven classrooms. The focus ahead is on deepening curriculum development, strengthening teaching practices, and nurturing inquisitive, independent learners through more engaging and experience-driven approaches. Efforts will continue to scale the model sustainably while maintaining the quality and intent of early childhood education.
